True Blue September 4, 2008 Kathi A. Jones (Seattle, WA) I knew little about portable HD's, but after some research this one rose to the top. The SimpleTech offers me the space I need and is easy to use for someone not so technical. And then there is the color, true blue.
So far, so good September 2, 2008 J. Nixon (Washington Metro Area) I can't complain. The storage space is great. It's easy to use (plug and play). I'm not crazy about the online software that comes with it. That I found difficult to use. But so far, so good. Very compact.
simple tech port hd August 24, 2008 L. Quigley Great buy - easy to use - transfers data quickly. Small - light weight and very - portable.

The Hard drive is good. But the seal was tampered when I received. I don't know if they will hold it in warranty or not...hope it does not require the same. But at the price I got it, its fine.
Have used it for six months, no problems August 9, 2008 Cowboy Bill (Omaha, NE USA) I've used this drive for six months now (I usually wait at least that amount of time to write a review so I have time to experience any breakdowns in performance). So far, so good. I've had no problems at all with the unit.
The unit in fact works better than I thought it would, given its relatively inexpensive price. Setup was a breeze. I plugged it in to a USB port and it worked immediately.
The drive is much faster than I thought it would be, and I've even started downloading and burning files directly to this backup drive, skipping my hard drive altogether. (I'm mainly using this drive as an archive for media and application files, photographs, podcasts and large Photoshop docs. I'm not using it as a hard-drive mirror.)
I imagine the portability works well, as unplugging the unit from its port is quite easy and the unit is small enough for easy carrying. I should mention that the unit's manual warns that plugging and unplugging the unit too often without shutting it down first might cause the USB port to stop working entirely. I'm guessing this is something that seldom happens -- and is probably something any device with a USB plug can cause, not just this particular drive -- but the fact the manufacturer felt obliged to mention it at all is a bit worrisome (and the manual's instructions for shutting the unit down aren't the most helpful).
The drive only takes up one USB port unless your USB ports are unpowered or a few of them are and you're trying to use one of those unpowered ports to power this drive. You only need to use the second plug if plugging the first one doesn't power the unit. (You can always power this drive with a regular ol' power adapter, but that's kind of a drag if you're running out of sockets). To repeat, I had no problem powering up right away but some folks, especially ones with older computers, just might.
Lastly, the unit is very small -- gotta love drives with this small of a footprint. It's also lightweight. The cord isn't very long, though, but this hasn't caused me any headaches; I've set the drive on top of my computer's casing and it's still within reach if I need to get to it.
All in all, I'm very satisfied. (Wish the manual was a bit clearer, though.)
