Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
It began with iPhone. Then came iPod touch. Then MacBook Pro. Intuitive, smart, dynamic. Multi-Touch technology introduced a remarkably better way to interact with your portable devices - all using gestures. Now we've reached another milestone by bringing gestures to the desktop with a mouse that's unlike anything ever before. It's called Magic Mouse. It's the world's first Multi-Touch mouse. And while it comes standard with every new iMac, you can also add it to any Bluetooth-enabled Mac for a Multi-Touch makeover.

Amazon.com Product Description
With Magic Mouse, Apple has brought Multi-Touch technology to the desktop mouse, giving you a new and more intuitive way to interact with your computer. Just as with iPhone, iPod touch, and MacBook Pro, the Bluetooth Magic Mouse adds gestures and swipes to the usual clicks to bring more functionality and help you get more done with less effort.

Beautiful Design with Seamless Multi-Touch Surface
One look at Magic Mouse and you'll know it's something special that only Apple could dream up. With a low-profile design and seamless top shell, you'll marvel at this beautiful mouse and its smooth, buttonless appearance.

It's not all looks, though. Once you touch it, you'll appreciate how good it feels in your hand. And the magic really begins when you start using it. The Multi-Touch surface covers the entire top of the mouse, and the mouse itself is the button. Scroll in any direction with one finger, swipe through web pages and photos with two, and click and double-click anywhere. Inside Magic Mouse is a chip that tells it exactly what you want to do. Which means Magic Mouse won’t confuse a scroll with a swipe. It even knows when you’re just resting your hand on it.

Laser-Tracking Engine
Magic Mouse uses powerful laser tracking that’s far more sensitive and responsive on more surfaces than traditional optical tracking. That means it tracks with precision on nearly every surface - whether it’s a table at your favorite cafe or the desk in your home office - without the need for a mousepad.

Wireless Convenience with Easy Bluetooth Setup
Magic Mouse connects wirelessly to your Mac via Bluetooth, so there’s no wire or separate adapter to worry about. Pair Magic Mouse with your Bluetooth-enabled Mac and enjoy a reliable and secure connection up to 33 feet away. When you combine Magic Mouse with the Apple Wireless Keyboard, you create a workspace free of annoying cables.

And because Magic Mouse is wireless, it can venture beyond the confines of your desk. A quick flick of the on/off switch helps conserve battery power while Magic Mouse is tucked in your bag. Even when it’s on, Magic Mouse manages power efficiently, by detecting periods of inactivity automatically.

Make One Great Gesture After Another
Multi-Touch technology on the iPhone and iPod touch introduced a breakthrough way to interact with your content. Magic Mouse, with its Multi-Touch surface, does the same thing for your Mac. When you use gestures, it’s as if you’re touching what’s on your screen. For instance, swiping through web pages in Safari gives you the feeling of flicking through pages in a magazine. And scrolling with Magic Mouse isn’t your everyday scrolling. It supports momentum scrolling (similar to iPhone and iPod touch), where the scrolling speed is dictated by how fast or slowly you perform the gesture.

Stunning, beautiful design by Apple. View larger.
Give It Your Personal Touch
Maybe you want scrolling but don’t want swiping. Or two-button clicking instead of one. Whatever the case, Magic Mouse works the way you want it to work. All you do is go to the Magic Mouse preference pane in System Preferences to enable or disable features.

The ambidextrous design of Magic Mouse means it fits comfortably in your right hand if you’re a righty or in your left hand if you’re a lefty. And left-handers can easily swap left and right button functionality using System Preferences.

System Requirements

  • Bluetooth-enabled Mac computer
  • Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later with Wireless Mouse Software Update 1.0
  • Existing keyboard and mouse for setup

Multi-Touch technology lets you use gestures and swipes directly on the mouse surface.

5 out of 5 stars Best mouse I have ever used   March 12, 2010

Its rare for something as basic as a mouse to be so much better that it impacts my use and provides significant new functionality, but this mouse does. It is great and the touch surface is brilliant. Congrats Apple on investing a better Mouse!

4 out of 5 stars More speed and grasp needed to be magical.   March 11, 2010
Rich (California USA)
After 3 months using the Apple Magic Mouse a couple of features have become tiring. The most important is the low profile; while it's perhaps ergonomically better for the wrist given it's low angle, it does mean a less sure grip--kind of like playing tennis in high heels--it's a fussy affair demanding a conscientious effort especially from power mousers. Frankly, it needs to stand taller where it's gripped so that thumb and ring finger aren't homeless for a place to grab. The surface of the entire mouse can be swiped up and down for scrolling or across to back page the web browser. Too often, the back page swipe function happens unintentionally. The speed of the mouse tracking is barely enough to cover the 27 inch screen iMac. Again, the top speed is just a bit too slow, so a third party software would have to be used. There is virtually no lag in responsiveness, but the drag presented by the railroad-track looking feet of the mouse can create more drag-stickiness than optimal--encumbers control. Using a "Wowpad" (large, thin, plastic sheet) seems to be good but must be kept clean to work reasonably well with the mouse. About 20% of the time the iMac returns from sleep mode the mouse and keyboard lose connection and the iMac must be restarted. However, any wired mouse will still function. Acceleration can not be controlled since through OS X, yet the native accelerator does have a near-perfect acceleration curve, leaving the user in control at slower, micro movements and increases speed controllably. Accuracy is top notch and screen movement is very smooth. It's a good mouse in general despite the shortcomings, but the lack of graspability is fussy and its appearance really says it all--too much elegance of form to be practical--form and function are not very simpatico. It's not just simple, it's simplistic and leaves the user a bit too detached from feeling in complete control. It won't be a deal breaker for most but most will notice. Apple's next mouse needs a little more might with speed and graspability, and as such should not be sacrificed for style; then it will warrant its full name.

5 out of 5 stars A Mouse that Works   March 8, 2010
K. Scott Proctor (Wilmington, DE USA)
The Apple Magic Mouse is a true Apple product in that it "just works." This is a product that is of fantastic and simple design and is easy to use. I opened the mouse when it arrived from Amazon, turned a switch on, and it then worked immediately and just as advertised. This is how a product "experience" should unfold, yet I find such an unfolding increasingly infrequent with technology products. Kudos to Apple for making this product work so well.

The most impressive feature with this mouse is the multi-touch surface. I find myself scrolling with a mouse more and more frequently, and the Apple Magic Mouse makes the scrolling experience smooth, easy, and nearly effortless. Most other mice use some type of "roller" for scrolling functionality -- this mouse senses your touch and can even apply "momentum" to the direction and acceleration of your finger movements.

Apple Magic Mouse seems to "know" what you want the cursor to do. It makes the interface experience notably better as compared to all other input devices that I have used. I highly recommend the Apple Magic Mouse.

Arther C. Clarke is famous for having said, "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." While the Apple Magic Mouse does not feel quite like magic, it is sufficiently advanced to warrant a purchase.

5 out of 5 stars Got a mac, get one of these   March 6, 2010

It may be expensive but this is the best mouse I have ever used PERIOD.

If you like your multi-touch iPhone, iPod Touch, or MacBook mousepad, you will know what the Magic Mouse can do for you; it feels great in the hand and responds to all those familiar gestures - Apple does it again!!!
