3 out of 5 stars EF-D Screen Install - not so good   August 12, 2008
Richard Steele (Sacramento, CA USA)
The instructions and the Canon video I viewed made this look like a super easy install which it should be. Following the instructions to the letter, the orginal screen didn't want to drop down in the holder. Once I got it out, using the supplied tool, the new screen didn't want to seat as shown in the video so the holder wouldn't latch up. I tried seating the screen several times more and got it to latch in place. To my amazement, despite being in a factory sealed container, I have a smudgy looking streak to the left of center of the screen. I will need to pull it out and see if it can be cleaned or if it's a defective screen. Since I bought it from a local shop, I may have them look at it.

I do need this screen to help me keep my images horizontal as my varilux eyeglasses have given me problems in the past.

5 out of 5 stars Focusing Screen   July 28, 2008

This is a must if you wish to be certain as to your alignment. Works best when using Live View. I take a lot of time photos and found this to work better than the focusing screen that comes with the camera. Had a similar screen when I used my 35mm film camera.

5 out of 5 stars It's Canon, and just what I wanted!   July 13, 2008
Ronald C. Parker (Cedar Springs,MI USA)
I just purchased a Canon 40D SLR digital camera and when I found that it has interchangeable focus screens I knew I had to have this one. I knew if Amazon had it in stock it would be "Prime" and that is the way to go. The purchase has proven to be a go idea, and I am very pleased with everything related to this transaction.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Addition to the 40D and Well Designed!   July 11, 2008
M-Yav-2 (Southern California)
The EF-D focusing screen is a must have for the 40D, so much so, I don't know why Canon doesn't make it standard.

It was incredibly easy to install and Canon did their homework on the whole product concept. The installation tool works perfectly and is cleverly designed as is the container that the screen comes in.

I had never changed out a focusing screen before and I had mine installed in just over 60 seconds! It is really that easy.

Their are two caveats I would offer: first is that it is easy to get dust and debris on the screen when you change it out, so change it in as clean an environment as you can and use your rocket blower to blow it off before you put it in. Also, once the EF-D screen is in, you'll need to go into one of the custom function menus to tell the camera which focusing screen is in place.

After I installed the screen, I looked through the viewfinder and saw too small specs that I didn't see with my naked eye. No big deal, using the supplied tool, I quickly and easily removed the screen, blew it off, and replaced it. No more specs and it's nice to know that if any more ever work their way onto the focusing screen, and they eventually do, I can blow them off in short order.

If you have a 40D, you NEED this focusing screen!

5 out of 5 stars Works great, easy to install   June 24, 2008

I hesitated buying this screen because I thought it would be a pain to install. I couldn't have been more wrong. It was so simple; I think I did it in under a minute. The grid works great and has been a huge asset when framing my shots. Overall this was a great purchase!
