Story and Gameplay
Like every The Sims game, the story behind the World Adventures Expansion is whatever you want to make of it, but in this case within the realm of international travel. And why not, since what sim doesn't need a vacation. Players choose from environments set Egypt, France or China, with the possibility of others via download. Similarly, gameplay follows the same well-worn path familiar to veteranThe Sims players, and easy to pick up for those coming to the franchise for the first time. Players create their sims as they like, customizing everything from physical characteristics, all the way down to personality traits, habits, etc. They can mix with other sims, build relationships, start families and even die. Because this expansion is based around travel, your sims can also discover rich, new cultures, develop brand-new skills and abilities and explore and adventure through realistic environments. New skills related to these destinations include photography, martial arts, and nectar making (a sim beverage) among others. As part of of the exotic locales available, sims can get adventurous and explore the caves and tombs of Egypt and China. Here they will put their new adventure related abilities to work as they participate in Indiana Jones like adventures full of excitement and even danger, including some not-so friendly mummies and the Grim Reaper.

Unique Simlish Soundtrack
Just as with travel, every sim has his/her particular musical tastes. With that in mind the World Adventures Expansion Pack features an all-star soundtrack of real songs, recorded by the original artists in the sims native tongue of Simlish. These tracks include:

  • Broken Hearts Club - "Na NA NA"

5 out of 5 stars Bon Voyage!   August 31, 2010
Dr. Maniac (Somewhere over the rainbow)
The other vacation expansions for the sims were not actually appealing. Maybe it's because you were just sort of doing the same things with a different background. BOOOOORING! This is not merely a vacation. It's an Indiana Jonesy series of adventures, which I guess is why it's not called "The Sims World Vacations". The game introduces "adventures" linear levels that, while usually involving exploration, can have simmy interaction in it as well. Explain why it's a bad thing... a bad idea? These sims are embarking on a journey into the unknown worldd and you freaking put this frustrating little linear level in front of us? This isn't4 about linearity... it's about you in your own little fantasy world, right? Oh, and there's some new skills and traits and crap... don't get me wrong, it's great... but if you're a whiny loserly geek (like me) you may object to the complete gender change.

Many others have gone into details, both bad and good, about this game, so I'll let you look elsewhere for those.

I just bought my game a little under a month ago (fortunately, it sounds like!), since it was on sale at Amazon.com. I had no problems installing or running it (I use a Mac), it seems to work just fine. I do think it's a bit strange that they've taken the game into an RPG direction, with actual quests to accept, objectives to be achieved, and puzzles to solve. I feel like I'm playing an RPG meant for children, it's a bit disconcerting. I know the rewards you get during such adventures can make a difference in the "normal" lives of your Sims (learn certain recipes, collect artwork for your home, etc), but the methods for obtaining these things... not really sure I like that! If I wanted to play an RPG, World Adventures would not be first on my list.

That being said, I'd still buy it. It's better than having NO expansion and repeatedly doing the same thing. It's not a terrible addition to the game, just a little too different from what I was looking for. I'm still hoping for Pets and College and Nightlife.. Sims 3 style!
